RBG Won't Return to the Supreme Court Next Week”

Ginsburg is now working from home while recovering from lung surgery late a year ago. Ginsburg was discharged from a NY hospital on Christmas day after having two cancerous growths removed from her left lung.

Ginsburg will continue to work from home next week, but she will participate through briefs and transcripts.

The political world is abuzz with rumors that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg may soon resign from the U.S. Supreme Court, potentially sparking the most intense fight yet over President Donald Trump's third nominee to the nation's highest court. As a result, Politico reports the White House is apparently telling allies to prepare themselves for the possibility she could retire.

After the knock-down, drag-out confirmation battle for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh almost tore the nation asunder, the White House and Senate are preparing for another, potentially even more divisive, showdown.

If Ginsburg, who will turn 86 in March, is unable to return to the bench, President Donald Trump would have the chance to nominate a third Supreme Court justice to the highest US court.

"Two nodules in the lower lobe of her left lung were discovered incidentally during tests performed at George Washington University Hospital to diagnose and treat rib fractures sustained in a fall on November 7", the statement said.

Cancer surgeons have said, though, that several weeks of recovery is perfectly normal for the procedure. "Post-surgery evaluation indicates no evidence of remaining disease, and no further treatment is required", Arberg said.

A year ago, the news broke that Ginsburg hired law clerks for at least two court terms, signaling she intends to stay through 2020.

On Monday, Ginsburg missed Supreme Court oral arguments for the first time in her 25 years on the bench. If Ginsburg steps down as one of the four liberal justices now serving, President Trump will nearly certainly appoint a conservative replacement, tilting the court further to the Right.

The short list of potential replacements for the ailing Ginsburg include Seventh Circuit judge Amy Coney Barrett, whose name got floated before Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh.

Conservatives hold a 5-4 majority on the court.

Politico said numerous prospective nominees to replace Ginsburg were women, which theoretically would derail the likelihood of sexual-assault claims such as those faced by Justices Thomas and Kavanaugh.
