Clark County Measles Outbreak Increases To 31 Confirmed Cases”

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee declared a state of emergency over the measles outbreak Friday.

Washington's state Govoner declared a state of emergency following a measles outbreak unfolding in Clark County on January 25.

Anyone who has never been vaccinated is at risk of getting measles if they come into contact with someone who is contagious.

No additional cases of measles have been identified in Oregon.

While measles is highly contagious, it's also one of the most preventable diseases, according to Dr. Jonathan Mou, at Adventist Health in Portland.

According to The Oregonian, most of the cases involved children younger than 10, the Clark County Public Health Department in Washington said in a statement. Nearly everyone who is not immune will get measles if they are exposed to the measles virus.

The CDC says that typically individuals get measles overseas in areas where immunization rates are low, and then spread the illness in pockets of unvaccinated people. State figures reveal that 7.9 percent had been exempted from the mandate that children entering kindergarten should have been vaccinated for the disease before being accepted.

Obtained one dose of the measles vaccine and you're a preschool-aged youngster OR an adult who won't be in an excessive-danger setting for measles transmission.

Although some people can not get vaccinations due to immune system issues or allergies, others do not get their children shots due to religious or philosophical beliefs.

While many people feel like measles are not a big deal, officials are concerned because serious complications such pneumonia and brain infections can arise, Lindquist said.

- If your child has only received one dose of the MMR Vaccine, take them to get a second dose from their primary care provider as soon as possible.

The health department has published a long list of places where infectious people have visited included churches, schools, hospitals, parts of Portland International Airport, an IKEA, and even a Portland Trail Blazers basketball game.

The Oregon Healthy Authority says the agency is working to let people know of the potential exposure within the county.

With measles apparently making a comeback in the USA, preventive steps need to be made urgently.
