New video captures moment of deadly dam collapse in Brazil”

A spokesman for the Minas Gerais Fire Department said after the ceremony that authorities were not calling off the search for bodies, though no one had been found alive since Saturday. The process is now an attempt to recover the bodies of the dead.

The same amount was frozen on Monday, after the state's Public Ministry of Labor requested a total of 1.6 billion reals (about 440 million US dollars) be frozen to cover costs related to the accident, which has so far killed 110 people, mostly Vale employees.

Dramatic video footage has emerged showing the exact moment a mine dam burst in Brazil, unleashing a deadly wall of muddy sludge.

This is the second incident to happen at one of its mines in three years. It killed 19 people and caused the worst environmental disaster in Brazilian history.

Local media reported that state labor courts had frozen more than 800 million Brazilian reals (roughly $220 million) of Vale's assets as compensation for the victims.

"It felt like it was just a matter of time before something bigger would happen", said Josiele Rosa Silva Tomas, the president of the Brumadinho residents' association.

The burst tailings dam at the Corrego do Feijao mine last Friday has ignited intense public anger against Vale, which was co-owner of Samarco, the previous dam that collapsed.

The mining company said it had also begun safely treating the streets and fields of Brumandinho to prevent the spread of disease as an environmental group told the AP Thursday that it had set out to test the Paraopeba river's levels of toxicity.

Around 2,000 people gathered in Belo Horizonte, capital of the mining-intensive state of Minas Gerais which was home to both disasters, to protest against Vale, with some saying its top executives should be jailed.
