Huawei’s 5G foldable phone is coming, here's when”

Huawei is the latest company suspected to announce a foldable phone during Mobile World Congress at the end of February.

It seems like Chinese smartphone maker Huawei may overtake Samsung in launching the foldable smartphone.

Huawei promised a foldable 5G phone for the MWC and is now backing that up with a teaser image, which sets the unveil date as February 24 at 14:00 CET. The company also enlightened its new Balong 5000 5G modem and the company's base station hardware.

Huawei revealed its plans for a foldable device last October. The "external" display features what looks like a regular Android home screen as well as a larger "internal" display.

In terms of specifications, it has been confirmed the Huawei foldable phone will be 5G enabled and it is expected to run on the Kirin 980 platform.

Huawei's foldable phone is likely also going to feature 5G connectivity. What's odd is when the phone is unfolded, the external display was still running in the video. Plus we already knew the device would be 5G-compatible, and the above teaser suggests that the device won't have an inward-folding screen like Samsung.

In addition to all this, Samsung, Xiaomi and LG are also working on the foldable devices. Considering the fact that we are presumably dealing with a contemporary Android home screen, this might mean that Samsung's actual foldable smartphone is now a close-to-market device. The launch event may also mark the unveiling of the Galaxy F, Samsung's first foldable smartphone.
