May claims she is 'armed with fresh' Brexit mandate”

May has promised MPs that she will bring any revised deal back to be voted on by MPs on February 13.

It reportedly states that in the wake of Britain crashing out of the European Union without a deal, for months after, the Government may have to engage in a 24/7 emergency approach. The leaders are to discuss preparations for a no-deal Brexit in the event that the withdrawal agreement is not ratified.

Auto giant Nissan announced Sunday it was cancelling plans to build its X-Trail SUV at its plant in northeast England, saying that "the UK's future relationship with the European Union is not helping".

"The objective of the backstop is simple - to ensure the protection of the Good Friday agreement, the single biggest achievement we share with successive British governments".

Writing in the Sunday Telegraph today, Mrs May said she will be "armed with a fresh mandate, new ideas and a renewed determination to agree a pragmatic solution that delivers the Brexit the British people voted for". "That is what Parliament instructed me to do on Tuesday night".

The prime minister rejected accusations that plans to reopen the backstop talks risked upsetting the Irish peace process.

In an article for the Sunday Times, Simon Coveney, the Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland, wrote: "The EU will not renegotiate the withdrawal agreement and there will be no withdrawal agreement without the backstop".

On Monday, the House of Commons Brexit Committee is scheduled to visit Brussels to meet Martin Selmayr, the EU negotiator and Commission secretary-general, Sir Tim Barrow, the ambassador to the EU, and Guy Verhofstadt, the European Parliament Brexit coordinator.

But he added that Brussels was prepared to re-examine the deal to make it "more ambitious" in terms of its post-Brexit relations with the UK.

May's office denied a report in two Sunday newspapers that her advisors were considering a June election.

"This represents a significant step towards delivering Brexit and fulfilling the instruction given to us by the British public".

He added that Britain's only path to avoiding a so-called "hard Brexit", in which London exited automatically on March 29 with no transitional arrangements in place to ensure the continued flow of goods, medicines and transport links, was to accept the existing deal.

The opposition Labour Party has said May needs to seek a customs union with the EU to win the support of its lawmakers, something opposed by many in her Conservative Party.

Germany's Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas, said on Sunday that the idea of the United Kingdom avoiding Brexit was unlikely. "There is a deal on the table, and walking away from it will have serious consequences for us all".
