Trump Expected to Ban Chinese Telecom Equipment From US Networks

Trump Expected to Ban Chinese Telecom Equipment From US Networks”

But dumping the telecom company comes at a cost as experts say Huawei is between six months and one year ahead of rivals in terms of the quality of 5G equipment.

"Our solid track record in security is our strongest evidence [against the security allegations]", said Ryan Ding, the head of Huawei's carrier business group.

Huawei, the world's biggest producer of telecoms equipment, faces intense scrutiny in the West over its relationship with the Chinese government and USA -led allegations that its equipment could be used by Beijing for spying.

It is a complicated process and will take at least three to five years to see tangible results.

Past year a United Kingdom government report highlighted some areas of concern.

A spokesman for the parliament science and technology committee did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"As was made clear in July's (report), the NCSC has concerns around a range of technical issues and has set out improvements the company must make", a spokeswoman said in a statement.

Any Western country allowing Huawei Technologies Co. or other Chinese equipment to be used in critical infrastructure projects will face the risk of US countermeasures, the USA envoy to the European Union said.

Reuters also reported that the Italian government has denied that it will ban Huawei and fellow Chinese networking company ZTE from its 5G rollouts.

A hot potato: China is able to pump out mass quantities of low-cost tech products, but cellular networking equipment produced by Chinese companies is on the brink of a total ban from the United States according to administration insiders. It states that Chinese organisations are obliged to "support, cooperate with, and collaborate in, national intelligence work".

Huawei is also willing to accept European government supervision, Reuters said.

'Were Huawei ever to engage in malicious behaviour, it would not go unnoticed - and it would certainly destroy our business.

Deutsche Telekom, in an internal document obtained by Bloomberg, warned that Europe could fall behind China and the United States by as much as two years if it forgoes using Huawei's 5G equipment.

A spokesman from the National Security Council advised that the U.S.is "working across government and with our allies and like-minded partners to mitigate risk in the deployment of 5G and other communications infrastructure".

The next British report is expected to be released in coming weeks.
