Mazda MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition officially debuts

Mazda MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition officially debuts”

Officially making its world debut at this year's Chicago Auto Show, the same venue where the original MX-5 debuted three decades ago, it's a limited special edition that comes with exclusive features inside and out.

In addition to Racing Orange, the MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition features forged aluminium Rays wheels developed exclusively for the MX-5 in cooperation with Rays Co Ltd. and a 30th-anniversary badge displaying the model's serial number. You could say that the special edition is for fans who feel like they have been friends with the Miata forever.

It's painted in a distinct Racing Orange hue which Mazda claims "evoke the breaking dawn of an exciting day". Alcantara has been picked for the seat upholstery, door inserts and lower instrument panel. Also, each 30th Anniversary Edition Miata will get a badge, located on the driver's-side quarter-panel ahead of the rear wheel, that denotes the serial number of the auto.

Mazda made no mechanical changes to the Miata for this special edition, and that's fine with us. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, as does a three-month SiriusXM subscription and three-year Traffic Plus and Travel Link subscription.

Based on the 2019 Mazda MX-5 2.0-litre petrol with 184PS, the 30th Anniversary has a six-speed manual gearbox, Bilstein dampers, strut-brace and limited slip differential.

How will you be able to spot the 30th Anniversary Miata on the street once they are delivered to buyers?

Want one? You'll have to move fast, as only 3000 cars are available worldwide. That makes the softtop just $960 more than a standard Club with the BBS/Brembo/Recaro package, while the RF is only $10 more than a regular Club with the package. Mazda offered this model in four basic configurations: soft top with automatic transmission, retractable fastback with automatic transmission, soft top with manual transmission and retractable fastback with manual transmission.
