Michelle Obama Makes Surprise Appearance At 2019 Grammy Awards”

"Music is what we cry to, it's what we march to, it's what we rock to, it's what we make love to", said host Alicia Keys during her opening remarks at the 61st annual Grammy Awards that took place on February 10 at Staples Centre in Los Angeles. Obama started to say, before her words were lost amid the raucous cheering from the crowd. By using the network's streaming service CBS All-Access, users can sign in and gain access to the show or sign up for a free one week trial to watch the event. Music shows us that all of it matters every story with every voice every note with every song.

Keys said the night was about celebrating "the greatness in each other".

As you might know, the Grammys love tributes: This year, there will be one for Dolly Parton, performed by Little Big Town, Maren Morris, Kacey Musgraves and Katy Perry; one for Aretha Franklin, performed by Yolanda Williams, Andra Day and Fantasia; and one for Motown Records, led by Jennifer Lopez.

The audience could not contain their excitement as their thunderous applause interrupted her but she was happy to wait and restart her speech.

An absent Ariana Grande, who pulled out of the show last week after a dispute with producers, won her first Grammy, best pop vocal album for Sweetener.

And judging by the smile on her face, she really does look like she had a great time. Sure, his song "Daughters" was nice and very sing-along-y, but Keys had written her seminal song "If I Ain't Got You". "They said I was weird".

"Do you feel that love in the building?" she asked the assembled superstars. Though the ceremony went host-less from 2006 to 2011, LL Cool J and James Corden steered the ship in the following seven years.

Childish Gambino also later won "Song of the Year" for "This Is America".

Tonight is the night, music fans. But it was female artists who dominated nominations in the top categories.

Michelle Obama, 55, showed up at the Grammys last night, to the delight of the music industry's best and brightest. No one knew what to expect from an Alicia Keys-hosted Grammys, but now we know.

Viewers may also be paying close attention to the number of female winners, as a year ago the show made headlines when Alessia Cara was the only woman to nab a solo Grammy. Her apparent hosting strategy played to her strengths as a storyteller and musician.
