Phil Mickelson's Round 4 highlights from AT&T Pebble Beach 2019

Phil Mickelson's Round 4 highlights from AT&T Pebble Beach 2019”

With plenty of sunlight and no drama, Phil Mickelson finished off a 7-under 65 to win the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Monday (Tuesday NZT) and match the tournament record with his fifth victory.

Paul Casey had a three-shot lead over Phil Mickelson.

It is Mickelson and Casey now battling to win the tournament, while Scott Stallings also has an outside chance.

Casey finished with a birdie that was worth US$152,000 (NZ$225,000) because he wound up alone in second place.

Casey has never won in three previous times he had a 54-hole lead on the PGA Tour, all of them by two shots or more, and he was holding his own against the relentless pursuit of Mickelson, who missed three straight birdie putts from the 12-foot range by the slimmest margins.

The Pebble Beach Pro-Am appears headed for a Monday finish after a hailstorm halted play in the final round on Sunday.

Mickelson argued that he could "see just fine" on Sunday evening, moments after sunset with two holes remaining.

The weekend's PGA Tour event is still now ongoing and scheduled for a Monday finish due to adverse weather conditions over the weekend causing delays.

Casey was at 15 under, tied with Scott Stallings, who closed with a 66.

Wade Ormsby, a pre-tournament [80.0] chance, hit a low of [1.18] during the fourth and final round of the ISPS Handa Vic Open on the European Tour yesterday but long odds-on players got their fingers well and truly burnt.

"So at the end of a year ago, even though I played poorly, I had something happen where it seemed like overnight - it had really been in the works - where my driver speed shot up 5, 6 miles an hour, which rarely ever happens to anybody, let alone somebody in their late 40s", he said.

That also led him to enter this week's Genesis Open, which he had not planned to play, prior to defending a title at the WGC-Mexico Championship next week.

He will return to Pebble Beach in June for the US Open, where he made his pro debut in 1992.

"We've got two tough holes left and I don't want to jump the gun and get past that", Mickelson said.

Pebble Beach was so soft that balls were plugging in the fairway when they landed. "I'll deal with that in six months".

Thirteen of Mickelson's 43 PGA Tour victories have come in his home state of California.

For years, Mickelson, 48, has rebuffed talk of his age, choosing to focus on aspects that encouraged him going forward even through a four-year stretch without a victory.

But the final day, and all week, was about the ageless Mickelson.
