Far-Left Group Uses Kids To Pressure Feinstein. She Shuts Them Down”

Eventually, having exhausted of arguing with the group, Feinstein told one of them "Well, you know better than I do". Defending her stance, the senator explained that Democrats are a minority in the Senate, suggesting that legislation with more conservative appeal would be more successful.

Feinstein, in a statement to USA TODAY, did not apologize but said she wanted the children who visited her office to know they were heard and called the debate "spirited". "I know what I'm doing" and "you didn't vote for me" - are you fricking kidding me?

"Well, you didn't vote for me", Feinstein snaps back. The group also posted a recording of the full livestream, during which the sense of anger eases up about eight minutes in, when Feinstein forces her own version of an environmental action plan on to the kids and the adults.

The arrogance. "Ive been doing this for 30 years".

Stephen O'Hanlon, a spokesman for the group, identified the protesters in the video as Sunrise Movement "supporters and family members" in the Bay Area.

One teen girl told the senator that "we're the people who voted you" and pleaded for Feinstein to change her mind on supporting the Green New Deal.

The middle and high school kids are part of a group called "The Sunrise Movement" and after the meeting they tweeted that the senator "seems to be stuck in the past".

"How many wildfires and lost lives will there be before Dianne Feinstein treats climate change like the crisis that it is, and backs the Green New Deal?"

"Okay, I'll tell you what".

"I'm 16. I can't vote", the girl said.

This is a fight for our generation's survival.

"Unfortunately, it was a brief meeting but I want the children to know they were heard loud and clear", she said.

The children responded by pointing to military funding, and then argued for drastic action as some scientists estimate the world has just over 10 years to address climate change before its effects are irreversible.

"And then you do it your way", Feinstein went on. "Her reaction is why young people desperately want new leadership in Congress", the tweet with the video said.

'I always welcome the opportunity to hear from Californians who feel passionately about this issue and it remains a top priority of mine, ' she continued.

Republicans have mocked the Green New Deal as a progressive pipedream that would drive the economy off a cliff and lead to a huge tax increase, calling it evidence of the creep of socialism in the Democratic party. What makes this encounter more of a PR fumble is that young climate activists - perhaps more so than other issue for those who can not vote yet - have the greatest interest in securing aggressive policy, as they will be around much longer than anyone born in the 20th Century to experience the rough-and-tumble catastrophes of environmental collapse.
