Adani Highest Bidder To Manage Five Airports

Adani Highest Bidder To Manage Five Airports”

The AAI chose the highest bidders on the basis of the "monthly per-passenger fee". Sources aware of the development said that Adanis were the highest bidder for Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Mangalore, Trivandrum and Lucknow airport.

The AAI had received 32 technical bids from total 10 companies for the above six airports.

Sources had told Reuters the victor for the sixth airport, Guwahati, was likely to be announced on Tuesday. According to The Indian Express, the financial bids for the five airports were opened on Monday, February 25 and after a tough competition from others, the giant emerged as the winning bid for Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, Thiruvananthapuram and Mangalore airports.

A report by news agency PTI said that in November previous year, the government had cleared a proposal for managing six AAI-run airports on public-private partnership (PPP) basis.

The airports sector in India was predominantly dominated by two private sector players and experts see the entry of the Adanis as a positive for fostering competition amongst the operators.

This time around, the government adopted the per passenger fee model which is a modification of the revenue-sharing model which was used during the privatisation of Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad airports.

Making a large foray into the airport sector, Gautam Adani-led Adani Enterprises has won five out of six airports.

The Adani Group has emerged as the highest bidder for developing five out of the six airports for which the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has sought bids. An analyst of a brokerage firm tracking the company said that a closer look at the choice of business that the group has entered will show they are also sectors in which the government has put a significant policy thrust. For instance, for the Ahmedabad airport, Adani reportedly outbid the GMR group by quoting Rs 177 per passenger against the former's Rs 85.

In November previous year, the government had cleared a proposal for managing six AAI-run airports on public-private partnership (PPP) basis.

The Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is one of the five airports for which Adani won the bid. Ltd, PNC Infratch Ltd, a consortium of National Investment and Infrastructure Fund and Zurich Airport International AG, Kerala State Industrial Development Corp., and Kochi International Airport Ltd were among the other bidders, said the statement. "The aviation ministry will prepare a cabinet note listing the bids received for these airports".
