Lottery victor grateful after Good Samaritan returns £200 million winning ticket

Lottery victor grateful after Good Samaritan returns £200 million winning ticket”

"When I get the money I'm going to do that, I'm going to try that", he said.

"I just didn't believe that it was me, after all these years of playing, I finally had something that said, you're a bigger victor than $2", he said. She would not disclose the reason their marriage ended but said she was paying Weirsky spousal support.

She also doesn't suspect her husband will approach her to square up, but she does hope he'll "do the right thing".

"I'm looking for the guy that handed them in", Weirsky said.

The Alpha, New Jersey, man won last Friday's $273 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot, but he now finds himself in a bit of a pickle.

Michael J. Weirsky of Warren County, New Jersey claimed the million dollar jackpot at Lottery Headquarters on Thursday, according to a press release from lottery officials.

"I put the phone down, I put the ticket down, I sat there for a second - I said to my mother, 'Hey, that just said I was the jackpot victor, '" he said.

The stroke of good fortune came after Weirsky said he spent the last 15 years unemployed while living with his former wife, Eileen Murray, 53, who works as a cost analyst for a utilities company.

He said he plans to buy a Ford Raptor pickup truck and relishes the feeling of being able to go and buy whatever he wants. "I put the tickets down, put my money away, did something with my phone and just walked away", he told reporters on Thursday.

Weirsky plans to take the money as a lump sum of $162 million, rather than in installments. "You tell me what's the moral thing to do".

When it comes to lottery tickets, possession is nine-tenths of the law, Carey said. "If you think about it, it's very hard to say who owns a lottery ticket, short of someone coming in here and saying, 'I purchased this ticket, it's mine, ' " he said.

He said he left his two tickets he purchased at the store and a "good Samaritan" reportedly handed them over to the clerk. Weirsky said he wants to give that person something but wants to keep it private.
