Cameras will be allowed at Jussie Smollett’s next hearing

Cameras will be allowed at Jussie Smollett’s next hearing”

One still camera and one video camera will be allowed when the "Empire" star appears in court Thursday, Chief Cook County Criminal Courts Judge LeRoy Martin Jr. decided, according to the Chicago Sun Times.

Last week a grand jury indicted Smollett on 16 counts of disorderly conduct.

The Jussie Smollett case is one of the more unusual events that's occurred in 2019 so far.

Smollett's legal troubles may not begin and end with this one indictment.

"We welcome cameras in the courtroom so that the public and the media can see the actual evidence and what we believe is the lack of evidence against Mr. Smollett and we look forward to complete transparency and the truth coming out", she said.

Meanwhile, ET has learned that attorney Mark Geragos filed paperwork on Monday to officially represent Smollett in IL. Details in some of those statements were different, the indictment says.

The actor left court after his bond hearing in February after posting $100,000, and headed to an "Empire" shoot.

Smollett's attorneys have called the charges "prosecutorial overkill" and say the actor maintains his innocence. In the meantime, there is no warrant for his arrest in connection with this week's indictment "because it's the same case", Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told Reuters.

Smollett said they also yelled, "This is MAGA country", in a reference to President Donald Trump's campaign slogan of "Make America Great Again".

The actor, who is African-American and openly gay, has said he was walking from a Subway sandwich shop to his apartment in the 300 block of East North Water Street about 2 a.m. January 29 when two men walked up, yelled racial and homophobic slurs, hit him and wrapped a noose around his neck.

Police detained the two brothers, but police sources revealed authorities suspected Smollett knew the men and paid them to stage the attack.

"As far as we can tell, the scratching and bruising that you saw on his face were most likely self-inflicted", Johnson alleged.

"There has been a lot of misinformation in this case that has been presented as fact and evidence against Mr Smollett, which is demonstrably false", Glandian said.

"Empire" actor Jussie Smollett is charged disorderly conduct, accused of orchestrating a fake hate crime against himself because he was upset with his salary.

Smollett has maintained that he is a victim and has denied all the allegations that he staged the incident.
