Federal Bureau of Investigation accuses wealthy parents, including celebrities, in college-entrance bribery scheme

Federal Bureau of Investigation accuses wealthy parents, including celebrities, in college-entrance bribery scheme”

Huffman and Loughlin are among those charged in a newly unsealed indictment.

"Fuller House" actress Lori Loughlin and "Desperate Housewives" veteran Felicity Huffman are among a group of around 50 people who have been indicted for allegedly bribing elite colleges to admit their children.

Other schools involved include Stanford, Georgetown and the University of Southern California.

Prosecutors say the coaches were bribed to indicate students were being considered as athletic recruits, because universities "typically apply different criteria when evaluating applications from students with demonstrated athletic abilities". Defendants with high school-aged children who were applying to college allegedly "conspired with others to use bribery and other forms of fraud to facilitate their children's admission to colleges and universities" in MA and elsewhere including Yale, Stanford, University of Texas, University of Southern California and UCLA.

In many instances, the children were unaware that their parents had paid these bribes according to federal documents.

The outlet also reports that Huffman and her husband, William H. Macy, allegedly made a charitable contribution of $15,000 to participate in a college entrance exam cheating scheme for their eldest daughter, 18-year-old Sofia.

WABC reports Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, agreed to pay $500,000 to get their daughters designated as recruits to the USC crew team to ease their admissions into the school.

"Huffman later made arrangements to pursue the scheme a second time, for her younger daughter, before deciding not to do so", the documents allege. Her daughter received a 1420 on the test.

Macy was not charged but Giannulli was named alongside his wife in the papers.

Federal agents allege that they recorded phone calls between Huffman and a cooperating witness in the case.
