National Football League free agency 2019: Safety Adrian Amos leaves Bears for Packers

National Football League free agency 2019: Safety Adrian Amos leaves Bears for Packers”

According to multiple reports, the Packers have reached deals to add safety Adrian Amos and pass rushers Preston Smith and Za'Darius Smith when the market opens on Wednesday.

This Green Bay Packers team needed an infusion of talent and the addition of Amos to the secondary will give them a player at the safety position that they haven't had in recent years. Now add another bookend to defensive coordinator Mike Pettine's unit.

Via NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Smith will sign a four-year contract with a base value of $52 million.

Amos started 16 games for the top-ranked scoring defense in the National Football League past year, picking up two interceptions and a fumble recovery along with a sack, 73 tackles and two other tackles for losses. Outside Linebacker Preston Smith #94 and strong safety Deshazor Everett #22 of the Washington Redskins celebrate after recovering a fumble in the first quarter against the Arizona Cardinalsat FedEx Field on December 17, 2017 in Landover, Maryland. That almost matches his production from the previous three years combined - 10 sacks and 74 combined tackles from 2015-2017. General manager Ryan Pace made a similar decision Monday, deciding to sign veteran nickel back Buster Skrine instead of keeping Bryce Callahan, who figures to get a larger contract than the $8.5 million guaranteed and $16.5 total Skrine took home.

Amos spent four seasons with the Bears.

Green Bay ranked 18th in total defense and 22nd in points allowed a year ago. There is room for improvement when it comes to capitalizing on those sacks (24.5 in 64 games) as Smith has only forced four fumbles - only one the past three seasons combined. But Smith is the latest move in what has been quite a haul for the organization.
