Windows 10 Can Now Automatically Roll Back Faulty Updates”

MICROSOFT HAS ANNOUNCED a new feature for Windows that it allow the OS to automatically rollback troublesome updates all by itself.

Microsoft has recently released a new build for Slow ring insiders, as the company advances towards finalizing the next feature update for Windows 10.

"To ensure that your device can start up and continue running as expected", Microsoft says on a recently published support page, "Windows will also prevent problematic updates from installing automatically for the next 30 days".

Your device has recently recovered from a startup failure if you have received this notification: "We removed some recently installed updates to recover your device from a startup failure".

This isn't the first time a seemingly innocent Windows 10 patch has caused sudden drops in performance, and its unlikely that this issue only affects desktops.

There is an option to override an uninstall, but Microsoft warns that if your computer fails to start as a result, it will automatically remove it again.

"This will give Microsoft and our partners the opportunity to investigate the failure and fix any issues", Microsoft wrote (via BP).

Once an update has been removed, Windows will not attempt to reinstall it for another 30 days.

The update will bring several major changes, including Windows Sandbox to run applications in a secure environment similar to virtual machines.

This new feature is welcome, as the general advice for people who are experiencing problems after installing an update is to uninstall the update to see if that fixes things.

In case you like living life on the edge, you can still download the updates manually by using the link given in the support document. But considering it's only done after all other fixes have failed, recovering from one may still be a very time-consuming process.
