Felicity Huffman Taken Into Custody in Alleged College Bribe Scheme”

Actresses Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman are among almost 50 people indicted in a widespread college admission bribery scandal, authorities announced Tuesday.

On Wednesday, both actresses had their reputations shattered as they were charged with fraud and conspiracy Tuesday along with dozens of others in a scheme that according to federal prosecutors saw wealthy parents pay bribes to get their children into some of the nation's top colleges. Singer also allegedly hired ringers to take college entrance exams and paid off insiders at testing centers to alter students' scores, according to charging documents.

Coaches, including the women's soccer coach at Yale University and the sailing coach at Stanford University, took between $200,000 and $400,000 to accept the students onto their teams. In a conversation last June with a cooperating witness, he was told his daughter needed to "be stupid" when a psychologist evaluated her for learning disabilities that would entitle her to more time to take the test, according to court papers.

Huffman, 56, was released Tuesday posting a $250,000 bond. He's accused of spearheading the scam, including allegedly facilitating cheating on college entrance exams like the SAT and ACT, Photoshopping prospects' heads on athletes' bodies, and bribing admissions officers.

Most of those charged either paid to get higher SAT scores or faked an athletic resume that, with the participation of a bribed college coach, helped the children get accepted to a college as a team's recruit.

Macy and Felicity Huffman have reportedly appeared in front of a downtown Los Angeles judge at the federal courthouse after the actress was indicted this morning on charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.

The charging documents, unsealed in Boston federal court, are more than 200 pages long.

Some parents spent hundreds of thousands of dollars and some as much as $6.5 million to guarantee their children's admission, officials said.

A source said that Huffman and other defendants had word in recent days that they might face arrest.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Lelling said the college admissions scam is a nationwide scheme, but there were several connections to the Boston area.

Huffman was taken into custody without incident in Los Angeles this morning, the Federal Bureau of Investigation told Inside Edition, while an arrest warrant was served this morning at Loughlin's residence but she was not home.

"The Department of Justice believes that Yale has been the victim of a crime perpetrated by a former coach who no longer works at the university", the university said in a statement sent out to the school.

Indeed, Loughlin's daughter, Olivia Giannulli, made headlines a year ago when she bragged on YouTube that she was going to college to party and likely would not have much time for classes. As night falls on the same Tuesday of the initial report, here's what we know so far: through reports and by the numbers.

HollywoodLife reached out to a rep for Felicity Huffman, but we did not receive an immediate response.

Prosecutors said it was up to the universities to decide what to do with students admitted through cheating.
