Calgary Police Seek Information About Suspects in $145k Bitcoin ATM Scam”

Todd is among the Bitcoin developers who developed a tool that allows processing transactions lost in the process, however, a tweaked version of the same is believed to be used for these scam transactions.

Calgary police have released security video images of four suspects in a nationwide bitcoin fraud. The four suspects are believed to have made a total of 112 fraudulent transactions in Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Hamilton, Sherwood Park, and other locations.

As per a local news portal, officers were tipped off to a major fraud involving transactions that targeted a Canadian bitcoin company.

Bitcoin scheme suspect number four. The men are now on the run, and Calgary police are looking for them.

Calgary is home to a total number of 45 Bitcoin ATMs, but only 21 of them support Bitcoin sales.

This man is suspected of making fraudulent transactions in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Hamilton. That creates two transactions in succession, one paying a specific amount to a specific address, and a second one double-spending that transaction.

The men allegedly attended bitcoin kiosks, successfully withdrew money, then remotely cancelled their transactions before the bitcoin company processed the withdrawal.

Police are asking anyone who can identify the suspects to call the Calgary Police Service at 403-266-1234, regardless of where they live in, or contact Crime Stoppers if they wish to remain anonymous.

The suspects had "in-depth knowledge or interest in cryptocurrency, Bitcoin and/or blockchain technology", Calgary police said.

This man is suspected of making fraudulent withdrawals in Winnipeg.

0-conf transactions are instantaneous; once the transaction is sent to the Bitcoin mempool, it is deemed completed despite the fact that miners haven't yet "mined" a block containing the transaction. All pertinent information regarding the suspects can be anonymously submitted to the police. That is why services ask for multiple confirmations for every transaction.
