India to clash with Australia in 5th ODI on March 13

India to clash with Australia in 5th ODI on March 13”

The belligerence of Kedar Jadhav (44) and Kumar (46) in a 91-run stand for the seventh wicket injected some late drama into proceedings, but the home side ultimately fell some way short in succumbing to a third successive defeat.

Opting to bat, Australia got off to another good start as Khawaja and Aaron Finch (27) put on 76 runs for the opening stand.

But the victory has greater significance as Australia claimed a stunning come-from-behind series win for a huge confidence boost ahead of the World Cup - nearly exactly a year after a ball-tampering scandal rocked the sport and led to the suspensions of Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft.

Regular wickets, a rare failure from Virat Kohli and a weird stumping with Rohit Sharma losing the grip on his bat saw India drop to 6/132 in the 29th over and left Kedar Jadhav to mount a comeback with the tail.

Ravindra Jadeja (two for 45) was the pick of India's bowlers, and provided the breakthrough. Australia's batsmen have been coping criticism due to their repeated failures against India over the past four months and in this series, Usman Khawaja and Peter Handscomb scored centuries while Finch himself seemed to have broken out of his poor run of form. The left-hander hit 10 fours and two sixes before driving straight to Kohli.

Then Jadeja got rid of Glenn Maxwell (1) and Mohammed Shami dismissed Handscomb.

The Aussies kept losing regular wickets but Jhye Richardson played a useful cameo of 29 off 21 deliveries before being run out on the final ball of the 50th over.

For Australia, Marcus Stoinis was brought in for Shaun Marsh and Nathan Lyon replaced Jason Behrendorff. Chasing 273, India lost wickets in quick succession and all the hopes were pinned on Rohit once Kohli was gone in the chase. He added 53 runs for the second wicket with Rohit.

First time Australia have defeated India in a Twenty20 series, which was their first limited-overs series win in over a year.

Kumar hit two sixes and three fours, while Jadhav hit four fours and a six, as the duo looked to shift gears.

India also became the only side in the world to lose an ODI series twice after leading 2-0.

Australia has another chance to impress ahead of the World Cup with another five-match series against Pakistan in the UAE starting on Friday March 22.
