Marvel Reportedly to Produce 'What If' Series for Disney+

Marvel Reportedly to Produce 'What If' Series for Disney+”

Now /Film says What If? is being developed as a "new animated show. overseen by Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios" for Disney's upcoming streaming service, Disney+.

One of the most exciting reveals in /Film's exclusive is that Marvel Studios will be hitting up the current stars of the MCU to reprise their roles for the one-off episodes of the anthology series. I just love the idea of a What If? animated series, because I've always loved the What If? comics, which have the freedom to tell any story they want, kill any character they want, and do all kinds of insane junk you could never get away with in your average Marvel Comic. Details on whether the series will adapt more stories from the comics (aside from the tale mentioned earlier) or create entirely new scenarios are now unknown, though they will be based on what fans have seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as opposed to comic book canon.

What if Captain America hadn't vanished during World War II? Most notably, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four could finally become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while the likes of Avatar, Alien, and the Predator will also be controlled by Disney. What if Captain America had been found in 1983? Others have included What if Wolverine had killed the Hulk?

One of the big issues with Marvel's TV shows like ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is that they were always forced to be reactive stories to the far more important canon of the films, and they were never able to take any big swings in the overarching story because it would interfere with the bigger plotlines of the movies. What if Flash Thompson, Betty Brant, and John Jameson had been bitten by the radioactive spider instead of Spider-Man? What if Cable had destroyed The X-Men? What if Namor grew up on land with his human father?
