Senior Republican, eyeing Trump budget, worries about USA debt

Senior Republican, eyeing Trump budget, worries about USA debt”

The budget calls for $845 billion over 10 years in Medicare spending reductions.

U.S. Rep. Bill Foster, D-Naperville, pointed to the budget's call for cuts to scientific research as risky to the nation's reputation as a leader in scientific research and innovation.

Only about a tenth of the proposed Medicare cuts in President Trump's budget would directly impact seniors, according to a new analysis.

US president Donald Trump's 2020 budget proposal released Monday is unlikely to pass in the Democrat-controlled House and is set to create yet another major political battle, experts have said.

"The president's budget proposal should be discarded immediately".

The plan, which came after a recent fight between Trump and Democrats over the funding of a border wall, led to an unprecedented partial shutdown of the federal government, involves a request for new funding for the border wall and proposed spending cuts for some medical care programs.

However, the budget is unlikely to affect public spending levels, which are controlled by Congress.

Also, as expected, the president intends to cut $220 billion in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (known as SNAP or, more commonly, as food stamps), $21 billion in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, $207 billion in the student loan program and seeks up to a 31-percent reduction in the Environmental Protection Agency.

A White House source argued to The Daily Caller that "either Biden never read his own administration budgets, he's losing his memory, or he's already bailing on Obama to appeal to the new socialists in his party".

"Overall, this is a really fiscally irresponsible budget that will take us backwards", she went on. The committee estimates only 11 percent of the proposed Medicare cuts come from Medicare Part D reforms.

"The cuts proposed today raise serious concerns about how hospitals and health systems can ensure they serve as the safety net for their patients", wrote Rick Pollack, chief executive of the American Hospital Association, in a blog post after the budget proposal was released. The department's total gross discretionary funding would go down to $44.1 billion in 2020 from this year's $52.8 billion.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) made it clear that they would not approve the wall money. "How is that going to help the people in this room or most of the people you live with?" "But I do appreciate the president's signaling that he wants to actually balance the budget". West said he expects the Democrats to charge that budget cuts will "hurt poor people in order to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy".

"Look at the 1980s, look at the 1990s", he said.

Neal, who has pledged to use his position has House Ways and Means chairman to protect Medicare, the federal health insurance program largely for people ages 65 and over, added that reaffirmed his commitment to "defending Americans' access to health care". "That will be fine", he told The Epoch Times.
