Arsenal 3 Rennes 0 (4-3 agg): Aubameyang brace sends Gunners through”

Arsenal approached Rennes with a view to signing their speedy forward Ismaila Sarr straight after their 3-1 Europa League defeat in France last week.

Cech, who is retiring at the end of the season, kept a clean sheet as Arsenal beat Rennes 3-0 on Thursday to move into the quarter-finals 4-3 on aggregate.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles doubled Arsenal's lead in the first half and put the Premier League side in a comfortable position.

Unai Emery's side will find out their next opponents when the draw is made on Friday and Cech is hopeful the Europa League title can prove a fitting final chapter for his career.

Rennes had made the most of facing 10 men for 50 minutes of the first leg following the dismissal of Sokratis Papastathopoulos - turning a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 win.

And the Gunners were soon on level terms in the tie, Maitland-Niles arriving at the back post to steer home a downward header from Aubameyang's cross, Rennes having paused for an offside flag that did not come.

He played the full 90 minutes of all three of Senegal's group matches in Russian Federation, with the African nation only eliminated because they'd accumulated more yellow cards than Japan.

"But I think we can feel this competition like in the Premier League, to do a good way and create, with our supporters, a big atmosphere and a big feeling together to do this way in the Premier League and also here in the Europa League".

Sead Kolasinac produced a fine block in front of goal to keep out Sarr's shot and Ramy Bensebaini gave Arsenal a further scare when volleying the ball against the opposite post to the one Sarr hit, though the offside flag would have denied him anyway. "The second goal changed things enormously, even if they were better than us and deserved to qualify".
