Trump doesn't have a plan to replace Obamacare

Trump doesn't have a plan to replace Obamacare”

The court has upheld much of the law previously, and should it be undone in its entirety, about 20 million Americans who have insurance under the law could be left in the lurch, a political and policy reality the White House has yet to prepare for, aides acknowledged. "Obamacare doesn't work, it's too expensive. It's a disaster for our people".

"So we're coming up with plans", Trump said, speaking Wednesday from the White House.

About 11.8 million consumers nationwide enrolled in 2018 Obamacare exchange plans, according to the USA government's Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

During an analysis of the Department of Justice's move to have the health care law entirely struck down, Enten explained that this is literally the absolute worst issue that Trump could be campaigning on heading into 2020.

And late on Monday, Justice Department attorneys filed a letter with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans, agreeing with the ruling of a federal judge in Texas who determined late a year ago that because the Trump tax cuts eliminated the Affordable Care Act penalty for not having health insurance, the ACA is no longer constitutional.

While this case won't be resolved anytime soon, the Trump administration's decision to advocate for the end of the current system gives 2020 candidates an opportunity to hammer Republicans for being against the improvements Obamacare made to the U.S. healthcare system without a way of ensuring that whatever comes next will be better. In a tweet in October 2016, he said, "We will have MUCH less expensive and MUCH better healthcare".

In 2010, the bishops withheld their support for the health care legislation because of what they saw as "fundamental flaws", such as a lack of conscience protection and failure to exclude elective abortions from health plans subsidized with federal funds. The party may not be ready to rebrand itself as "The Party of Healthcare" as Trump wrote on Twitter Tuesday just yet, namely because it has put forward no alternative to the ACA.

Democrats made defending Obamacare a powerful messaging tool in the run-up to the November's elections, when opinion polls showed eight in 10 Americans wanted to defend its most popular benefits, including protections for insurance coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.

"The Democrats have an offer - Medicare for All - which takes away all private insurance for individuals", said House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy, though not all Democratic candidates support eliminating private insurance. McCain said there was no replacement to actually reform the health care system to "deliver affordable, quality health care to our citizens Republicans haven't found (a way) yet and I'm not sure (they) will".

Democrats, on the other hand, rejoiced.

Republicans in Congress seemed to be in no rush to re-engage on the healthcare issue. John Barrasso told reporters before the ruling came out on Thursday. "As for Democratic incumbents and Democratic challengers up in 2020, the choice between nothing and Obamacare-plus will provide the stark contrast they seek to make with Republicans".

The Labor Department referred a request for comment to the Justice Department, which said it disagrees with the court ruling and is considering "all available options".

In that case, Texas v. Azar, Judge Reed O'Connor of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas ruled that the ACA's individual coverage mandate was unconstitutional and that the rest of the law also must fall.

Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), meanwhile, said that his party needs to address the issue of Obamacare's protections for people with pre-existing conditions, which the lawsuit is seeking to invalidate.
