Former ND, NFL running back arrested on child abuse charge”

A former NFL football running back arrested in Las Vegas on suspicion of child abuse now faces murder charges after the 5-year-old girl died.

Ex-NFL player Cierre Wood, 28 and his 25-year-old girlfriend, Amy Taylor, were arrested Wednesday in the death of Taylor's 5-year-old daughter, investigators in Las Vegas said.

According to KVVU in Las Vegas, Wood already faced charges of first-degree child abuse/neglect. Both initially were charged with first-degree child abuse and neglect, but an online inmate database showed that the murder charge had been added against Wood. The girl, 5-year-old La'Ravah Davis, died Tuesday night at Summerlin Hospital, according to the coroner's office.

Wood played for Notre Dame from 2009-2012 and entered the 2013 draft but was not picked up; he later signed as a free agent with the Houston Texans, for whom he played in only three games and carried the ball a total of 9 yards.

Jail records showed that Wood was being held without bail. He played in the National Football League from 2013-2015 and spent most of his career on practice squads with the Texas, Patriots, Seahawks and Bills. Per Melissa Hudson of ABC 57, Wood is due in court for a hearing on Thursday morning.
