Jet Airways cancels flights on worldwide routes”

Jet Airways suspended all its west-bound worldwide flights from India beginning Thursday evening till Friday morning, citing operational issues.

At the same time, Jet also cancelled domestic flights between Mumbai and Kolkata and Kolkata and Guwahati for Friday due to operational reasons.

Jet now has just 12 aircraft flying, with the company stating that it has grounded 10 more planes.

Mumbai: With lessors grounding more Jet Airways (India) Ltd planes, the airline suspended all of its global flights till Friday morning, even as a government official said the airline's eligibility to fly overseas might be reviewed given that its fleet size had fallen below the required minimum. "We are suspending all west-bound worldwide departures from India till Friday morning due to operational reasons", a Jet Airways spokesperson said. These include Mumbai-Kolkata, Kolkata-Guwahati and Dehradun-Kolkata via Guwahati. "But, supply stops whenever payment is not made and it's resumed as soon as payment is done", he said, explaining why the airline's fuel supply was cut three times in the last four days.

But it has been shrinking its global and domestic operations as its debts piled up. The total number of operational aircraft fell to 14 on Thursday, people in the know said. The country's aviation regulator the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has been monitoring its operations and assessing its eligibility to fly overseas.

Another man, travelling with his wife and five-month-old daughter said the airline told him there is nothing they can do for him. Its lenders are fervently looking for an investor for the airline.

Meanwhile Dutch website reports that Jet is suspending flights between Amsterdam Schiphol and Toronto.

The developments came as banks refused to release the promised additional loan of ₹1,500 crore and original promoter Naresh Goyal pledged 26% of his holding in Jet Airways with Punjab National Bank.

Jet needs urgent cash to survive. The airline was hoping on its lenders to transfer Rs 1,500 crore in emergency funding. Separately, a cargo agent seized cargo from a Boeing 777 flight operating from Amsterdam. A Jet spokespersonsaid the flight was cancelled and passengers re-accomodated.
