Madonna to perform in Israel next month for the Eurovision Song Contest”

The world's most successful ever female popstar is set to perform at perhaps the most controversial Eurovision in living memory.

They added she would "perform two songs, including a new song from her upcoming album".

Live Nation, said Adams, "saw the importance of bringing the iconic singer to Tel Aviv and creating a memorable, historic performance".

"I believe that her participation in the event will dramatically enhance the media exposure that the State of Israel will receive and will contribute significantly to the success of the Eurovision Song Contest and the branding of Israel in the world".

Unless something changes, she will perform her song "22" at this year's show, which reaches its final stage on May 18.

"No final decisions have been made, or agreements signed", said the EBU in a statement to the BBC.

"Official news and updates will come directly from the Eurovision channels in due course".

Her decision to appear follows calls from stars including Pink Floyd's Roger Waters for an worldwide boycott of the 64th edition of the televised singing contest.

Israel won the right to host Eurovision this year by virtue of the fact that Hod HaSharon's Netta Barzilai won the popular worldwide musical competition last year. The champion of Madonna appearing at Eurovision has been Tel Aviv-based billionaire businessman Sylvan Adams, who will also be footing the bill.

Madonna will be following in the footsteps of fellow American megastar Justin Timberlake, who provided the interval show for Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm.

Traditionally host of the race is the victor country of the previous year.

Nevertheless, Pro-Palestinian groups and organizations such as Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) and Jewish Voice For Peace called on Madonna to cancel her performance at the song contest in Israel in May.
