Barr to testify before Senate as Mueller report looms

Barr to testify before Senate as Mueller report looms”

The attorney general reiterated that he would try to make public as much of the Mueller report as possible and would rely "on my own discretion" during the redaction process.

"I haven't seen the referrals yet from Congressman Nunes, but obviously if there is a predicate for an investigation it will be conducted", Barr said.

Barr will testify today before the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Barr refused to answer her questions, and said his opening statement before the committee, along with three letters he has submitted, would be all he was willing to say about the report until he released it in redacted form next week.

The Department of Justice offered Mueller to review the March 24 letter, but the special counsel declined, according to Barr.

Barr, appearing before a Senate panel, did not say what "spying" had taken place but seemed likely to be alluding to a surveillance warrant the Federal Bureau of Investigation obtained on a Trump associate. Democrats have expressed concern that his version will hide wrongdoing by the president and are frustrated by the four-page summary letter he released last month that they say paints Mueller's findings in an overly favorable way for the president.

Barr said he will redact four categories of information, and "with all that stuff missing, it's going to read like an investigative Mad Libs", Stephen Colbert said at The Late Show.

They falsely claimed Mueller had exonerated Trump, painted House Democrats' investigations as partisan overreach and planned to target news outlets and individual reporters they believe promoted the collusion story.

"I'm glad to talk to Chairman Nadler and Chairman Graham as to whether they feel they need more information and if there's a way we can accommodate that", Barr said.

The attorney general also said the door appears open to more investigations or reports about the conduct of the Russian Federation investigation - music to the ears of Republicans who have followed the lead of President Trump in calling it a "witch hunt" or suggesting it's the product of a conspiracy by the FBI and the Justice Department.

He said Tuesday he expected Horowitz's review, which includes the FBI's process to obtain a surveillance warrant on former Trump foreign policy adviser Carter Page, will be completed in "May or June".

Some good news, other than Barr's stellar performance, is that Barr is investigating the origin of the entire Trump-RUSSIA travesty.

Walton's ruling came as U.S. Attorney General William Barr, testifying in Congress on Tuesday, said he would deliver a redacted copy of Mueller's report to lawmakers "within a week".

Critics of the Russian Federation investigation say the warrant on Page was unjustified and have also seized on anti-Trump text messages sent and received by one of the lead agents involved in investigating whether the Trump campaign was colluding with Russian Federation.

This is his first public appearance since releasing his four page summary of the Mueller report.
