Delta cuts back how far you can recline your seat”

Flights may be more comfortable for passengers, especially those who want to work on their computers, Mayerowitz added. Also, since the A320 planes have back-of-seat screens with entertainment that doesn't tilt at an angle, the reduced recline means that passengers can still watch movies and shows with good visibility. And that's a good thing.

They claim the move will reduce disruption to other passengers, allow them to pass by for toilet breaks and to use laptops freely.

But before you freak out, you should first know that they're only doing this on a limited number of planes. And if you're thinking to yourself, But I love going full recline when people are trying to get some work done before they land, then I have news for you: you're a monster, and you should get a neck pillow like everyone else so you can sleep sitting up.

"This isn't about adding seats or taking anything away", said Savannah Huddleston, a spokeswoman at the airline.

Ekrem Dimbiloglu, Delta's director of onboard product and customer experience, told The Points Guy that the reduced recline was an effort to protect the passengers seated behind.

The website reported Friday that the airline will retrofit its fleet of 62 Airbus A320 jets beginning Saturday, and it is expected to take two months to do so.

"Being a frequent business flier, my productivity just dies when the person in front of me drops their seat into my lap", aviation security consultant Jeff Price said.

The change will only take place on the A320 aircraft, which operate domestic flights around the country lasting only an hour or two.

"There's always been a debate among frequent travelers [about whether] flyers should have a right to recline or not", said Scott Mayerowitz, executive editorial director of the travel website the Points Guy.

'With the narrow room the airlines give you for your legs, I can't even sit in the normal seats with my legs facing forward.

And if the change works for Delta, Mayerowitz predicted that other United States airlines will follow. Delta says that this is a test to preserve passengers' personal space.
