GM to reveal next-generation Corvette in July

GM to reveal next-generation Corvette in July”

We've spilled plenty of ink (and pixels) about the upcoming C8 for the past five years (not to mention our relentless and breathless coverage of the idea of a mid-engined Corvette spanning several decades), and now Chevrolet is finally ready to talk about it as well.

GM confirms the engine in the new model is being moved from under the hood to being tucked between the passenger compartment and the rear wheels - a "mid-engine" design.

At long last, General Motors is admitting that the Corvette will reach another generation and has confirmed that the car-yes, the real, bona fide 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8-will make its official debut July 18.

The next-generation C8 Corvette has finally been confirmed by Chevrolet to be mid-engined, ending a 65-year tradition of the front-engined sports auto.

The general consensus of speculation surrounding the auto has been that the base Corvette will be powered by a naturally aspirated V8 with around 500 hp and not cost much more than the current $56,990 Stingray, while higher performance models could feature turbocharged or supercharged engines and possibly an all-wheel-drive hybrid drivetrain offering as much as 1,000 hp. Unfortunately for stick-shift lovers, the range is said to be mated exclusively to a Tremec seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, bringing an end to the manual-equipped Corvette.

Half of that promise has been met, GM partnering with Australian vehicle specialist Walkinshaw to convert left-hand-drive Chevrolet Camaros to right-hand drive at its Clayton facility. As far as we know there's no significance around that date.
