Braves, Albies agree to 7-year, $35M extension”

The initial reaction around the league is that the Atlanta Braves got a steal with the contract, as they have now locked up their two biggest young stars for under $150 million, not including the option years.

Albies and the Braves agreed Thursday to a $35 million, seven-year contract, a deal that includes a pair of team options that could make it worth $45 million for nine seasons.

The Atlanta Braves are doing everything they can to ensure the club's young, star players remain in Atlanta for years to come.

Albies' 2018 season was a very solid one, as he earned an All-Star berth with an excellent first half and then tailed off somewhat in the second half. Albies, 22, will be paid $1 million in 2019 and 2020, $3 million in 2021, $5 million in 2022 and $7 million in 2023, 2024, and 2025. He batted.261 with 24 homers, 72 RBIs and 105 runs scored in 158 games.

According MLB Network, the two-year options are for $7 million and $4 million. Previous year he made his first All-Star Game appearance after hitting.261 with 24 home runs, second in the majors among second baseman behind only the Chicago Cubs' Javier Baez.

Albies knew he signed a team-friendly contract.

Take Acuña's deal, for instance. In comments given following the Braves' contract extension press conference, Albies stated, "I'm excited to be here for another seven years". This season, he's already off to an impressing start, batting.364 in the first 11 games. If the extensions are picked up, the deal could last through the 2027 season.

Albies also emphasized that he loves the Braves and wants to spend his future with the team.
