Red Sox fans had cruel chant for Chris Davis

Red Sox fans had cruel chant for Chris Davis”

The Orioles slugger went 0 for 54 before breaking his slump.

Davis didn't have a single hit in his past 54 at-bats, but that hitless streak finally came to an end today in Boston.

But that all ended when Davis hit a two-run single off Red Sox's star Rick Porcello. Now he can focus on trying to hit more balls into play and getting more hits, seeing as he's getting paid $21 million to do just that. Soon some of those turned into real cheers when he got the hit. The Orioles fell 6-4 against the Red Sox.

The Orioles now lead the Red Sox 2-0 in the third. The former home run champion's drought is the longest ever by a position player.

The new mark breaks the previously hitless record set by Tony Bernazard, who went hitless in 57 straight plate appearances in 1984.

His last hit was back on September 14, and as his unfortunate streak continued through the Orioles' first 14 games this season - he played in 12 - it became the hot topic of conversation. Against the Red Sox, no less.

We'll see if this hit will be the at-bat that puts momentum in Davis' favor.
