Second Brexit referendum vote could happen, says Hammond”

While the deadline is six and a half months away, the deal agreed between the EU27 and the government was that the United Kingdom could leave earlier if MPs pass a withdrawal agreement.

The sister of Tory Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg is to stand as a candidate for Nigel Farage's new Brexit party in the forthcoming European elections.

"Our democracy has been so betrayed that I have felt the need to be here". "I did actually, rather stupidly, for a moment believe that we'd won", Mr Farage said.

BBC political correspondent Iain Watson has been told that the Conservative and Labour delegations have discussed some of the fine detail of the potential changes to the "political declaration" - the non-legally binding part of the Brexit deal, which sets out a blueprint for future relations between the European Union and UK.

Mr Farage has already vowed to take votes from "tarnished" UKIP, who he says have been "taken over" by the far right.

But he said the two sides were still some way apart on customs arrangements - Labour wants a new permanent customs arrangement with the European Union which would allow tariff-free trade in goods.

"Farage, 55, has been a thorn in the side of the ruling Conservative Party since former Prime Minister David Cameron took office in 2010".

UKIP, the party which Farage has dominated for the past twenty years, has suffered a series of defections since Gerard Batten assumed the party leadership and moved UKIP towards an overtly Islamophobic position alongside anti-Muslim campaigner Tommy Robinson.

He said: "I set the party up, she was the administrator that got it set up".

Writing in the Sunday Telegraph, he said: "I can only urge all my Conservatives in the Commons to act to save our party and the country from the growing dangers of a failure to honour their pledges to deliver Brexit without strings".

The Brexit Party has 70 candidates and sees the upcoming elections, which begin on May 23, as a "first step", Farage said at the launch event in the English city of Coventry on Friday.

"Am I happy about it?"

"One thing we can agree on is that our politics is broken, and has failed to fix the intolerable inequality and insecurity which caused the Brexit vote".

"This is the fightback and they're going to be very surprised by what they get".

He said he did not know how the Brexit party would do, but had placed a £1,000 bet at 3-1 on it topping the polls in the European elections.

"This morning I have put a thousand pounds on the Brexit Party in the European elections at the odds of three to one".
