Surveillance Footage Shows Chicago Cops Drag Teen Down Flight of Stairs”

Shocking surveillance footage shows the girl bundled to the floor and dragged down a flight of stairs by the two officers, who have since been reassigned to another school.

Laurentio Howard, the girl's father, is suing the city, the two officers and the Chicago Board of Education in the US District Court for the Northern District of IL, accusing them of violating her civil rights and physically abusing her without justification.

"The Board of Education and the Chicago Police Department continue to fail our children", Howard's lawyer, Andrew M. Stroth, said. An unarmed 16-year-old girl was beaten, kicked, punched and tasered by officers", adding, "Those officers filed a false statement. "Their statements are completely untrue and are completely contradicted by what is shown on the video. The saving grace for Dnigma is that this was caught on camera".

Her father, Laurentio Howard, has come to John Marshall Metropolitan High School to pick up his daughter when a confrontation between the teen and two school police officers deteriorated into a physical fight.

"[One of the officers] forcibly put his hand, like pushed me toward the stairs, causing me to fall down the stairs", Howard said at the time she was charged.

In the video, Dnigma can be seen standing next to one of the officers near the top of the stairs as she exchanges words with another student.

Howard admitted that she was resisting officers at first, but only acted in her own defense responding to their actions. The officers stand on either side of Dnigma as she talks to another student and gives her a hug.

However, security camera footage from the school hallways recently obtained by the Sun-Times shows the genesis of the incident - and it's not what CPD said at all.

Police said the officers did everything they could to protect her and wanted her recharged.

Dnigma then manages to sit up but the officer with the taser keeps a foot on her leg and the other controls her arm.

The girl's father said the whole thing was handled improperly.

Both officers are no longer working at the school but remain in the 11th District.

"The video doesn't capture all of the interaction the student has with the police".

"We are deeply disturbed and troubled by this incident which has no place in our schools", she said in a statement.

A report from the Inspector General's Office past year was critical of the way police officers are used in CPS schools, finding neither institution kept track of which schools the officers worked at and asserting that officers lacked specific training in how to approach conflicts with students.

Stroth wasn't quite done singling out the officers involved in the attack. Stroth says the case can also be a "catalyst to influence police reform".

The family's attorney says the video shows the officers lied about what happened, so he has amended their federal lawsuit against the city and the officers.
