764 cases of measles reported in 23 states — CDC”

To help residents understand the causes and consequences of measles, the Riverside County Health System today activated an online portal that provides resources connected to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

To confront the expanding measles outbreak in NYC, the Health Department issued "Commissioner's Orders" on April 9th, which enabled the assessment of penalties up to $1,000 for violations or failures to comply with health notices.

That's 60 more cases than the number reported last week by the agency, which updates the number each Monday.

Soon after, the Advance reported that there was a measles exposure at Newark Airport, according to the New Jersey Department of Health.

NY contains two districts where at least three cases of the measles were reported, according to the CDC, and joins California as the only states with more than one district with at least three confirmed measles cases.

Pennsylvania, which has reported five cases of measles as of Thursday, is new to the list of states with cases this year.

Measles was once common but gradually became rare after a vaccination campaigns that started in the 1960s.

As of Thursday, there were 40 cases of measles in 12 California counties this year. The outbreaks had been so bad that public health emergencies were declared to increase vaccinations and to prevent the virus from spreading. Smith said most of the cases there are from four outbreaks, each of which began when an unvaccinated traveler returned home infected.

Babies between 6 months and 12 months should be vaccinated before worldwide travel or if they live in a community experiencing an outbreak.

A suggested law by Health Minister Jens Spahn revealed that Parents in Germany who decline to vaccinate their children against measles could face fines of up to 2,500 euros (about United States dollars 2,800).

Two cases are of an unknown source, but CDPH said it believes these two individuals were exposed to measles in worldwide airports. Doctors recommend that adults who are unsure of their immunity should get tested and then get the vaccine if needed.

But the Reuters/Ipsos poll showed USA adults by a wide majority share the scientific consensus that the highly contagious and sometimes deadly disease is unsafe, while vaccines are safe.

"Let there be no doubt: not only are the risks of vaccination severely overblown, the benefits are just as underplayed", he said.
