Air Canada Jazz plane collides with fuel tanker truck at Pearson”

Peel Regional Police told CP24 the driver of the fuel truck was charged with one count of unsafe driving.

An Air Canada Jazz plane that was originally headed from Toronto to Sudbury was forced to turn around during the early morning hours on Friday due to bad weather at the time in Sudbury.

"The aircraft came to a full stop, crew deplaned passengers quickly and they were escorted into the terminal building", Jazz Aviation LP spokeswoman Debra Williams told NBC News.

Three people sustained "minor injuries", the Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA) said in a brief email statement.

Authorities say the Air Canada Jazz flight with 51 people on board had left for Sudbury but turned around because of bad weather and was taxiing back to the gate when it was struck at 1:36 a.m.

Peel Regional Police told CP24 the truck driver was charged with one count of unsafe driving.

The aircraft was a Dash 8-300 with 50 passengers and three crew members onboard.

"Airport emergency services responded, and passengers and crew evacuated safely and have been moved to Terminal 1", the GTTA said.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada said it was deploying a team of investigators to the scene.

The airport said that the plane and vehicle were then removed from the runway without any impact to operations at Pearson.

The extent of damage to the aircraft was not immediately clear.
