More details of Android Q Desktop Mode unveiled by Google”

Banner ads showcasing Google's new Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL handsets pit them against Apple's iPhone X series devices.

If your phone is now running Android 9.0 Pie, then you'll probably have some experience with the Google Digital Wellbeing feature. But one thing that the Digital Wellbeing feature isn't supposed to do is actually slowing devices down. Android automatically enables the user-selected desktop APP on the large screen. The Pixel 3a is similar in looks to the Pixel 3 that debuted previous year. This does somewhat cripple its capabilities but also helps alleviate apparent slowdowns. Open Settings and search for "Usage Access" and tap on the relevant result.

Desktop modes such as Samsung's Dex has been available for some years now, and as is common Google is now planning to fold these features into Android natively. If you've got a Pixel smartphone with Digital Wellbeing on, disable it for a week and see what you think - I can guarantee you'll feel like you've got a new smartphone in your hands. As for Android Q, at I/O 2019, Google revealed a set of new features like Dark mode, smart replies, suggestions among others.

Disabling the feature is said to smooth out framerate issues such as stuttering in certain situations, as well as improve the speed and fluidity of everyday actions like switching between apps. From here, select Digital Wellbeing and flip the slider titled "Permit usage access" to off. The Wind Down feature, for example, which allows users to schedule a time for Do Not Disturb mode, Night Light mode and the grayscale filter to appear at certain hours, still works fine.
