South Shore Recalls Dresser Linked to Child's Death”

This can cause the dressers to tip-over and trap a child, which could result in injury or death.

South Shore furniture is recalling a chest of drawers due to a serious tip-over and entrapment hazard after one person died.

One fatality has been reported.

One resulted in the death of a two-year-old child, while the other resulted in a child receiving minor injuries such as bruises and scratches.

The dressers were sold online from Walmart, Amazon, Target, and other online retailers from October 2009 to July 2018.

And the notice says South Shore knows this because it's received two reports of tip-overs involving children. Details on affected model numbers are available here. The chests are 27-and-a-half inches high, 31-and-a-quarter inches wide, and 15-and-a-half inches deep.

Recalled models and numbers include Royal Cherry (3046033), Black (3070033), Black (3070223), White (3050033), White (3050223), Chocolate (3159033), Chocolate (3159223), Natural Maple (3113033), Soft Gray (10430), Gray Oak (10433), Country Pine (10680), Rustic Oak (10682). Some of the chests were part of a three-piece set. However, only the three-drawer chests are included in the recall.

The company urged consumers to immediately stop using any chests that were not "properly anchored to the wall" and place them in areas where children can not access them.

About 310,000 of the units are being recalled in the US, 6,900 in Canada and 5,600 in Mexico.

Consumers can receive a free tip-over restraint kit and can request a one-time free in-home installation of the kit.
