Brighton sack Chris Hughton

Brighton sack Chris Hughton”

Brighton & Hove Albion have sacked their manager Chris Hughton following his side's poor performance during the recently concluded Premier League season.

The Swans were in the hunt for a play-off place until the final week of the campaign, with Potter re-establishing the possession game which had been Swansea's trademark until the latter stages of their spell in the Premier League.

The former Republic of Ireland global and ex-Newcastle and Norwich boss has paid the price for a nervy finish to the campaign which saw the Seagulls finish just one spot above the drop zone, two places worse than previous year.

Celtic have given the media nothing when it comes to potential candidates.

"Our run of 3 wins from 23 Premier League matches put our status at significant risk".

Hughton left with Brighton's best wishes as the decision split fans of the club and the wider footballing world alike.

Potter, who spent seven years as manager of Swedish club Ostersund before moving to Wales, impressed during his first season at Swansea, helping the club rebuild following relegation from the Premier League. Hughton's assistant Paul Trollope and first-team coach Paul Nevin have also left.

Brighton chairman Tony Bloom described the decision to sack Hughton as one of the most hard in his career.

"Brought the club success it could only dream of and will always be someone I have the highest respect for through how he conducts himself as a manager and a man".

"Chris has done an excellent job over the past four and a half years", Brighton chairman Tony Bloom said in a statement on the club's website.

Brighton, who said they have not decided on a successor, but the process is underway, ended the season two points above the relegation zone with 36 points.

"They will always be welcome at the Amex, and will be remembered here with great affection".
