Kang claims AT&T Byron Nelson for first PGA Tour win

Kang claims AT&T Byron Nelson for first PGA Tour win”

Every opened the rain-delayed third round with a chip-in eagle, then had four birdies in a span of five holes to take the lead from Sung Kang before play was suspended because of darkness Saturday night with that lead group through nine holes.

Finishing at 23-under 261 total for the tournament, he beat American golfers Matt Every and Scott Piercy who both tied for second two strokes behind.

Tyler Duncan, also in the final threesome, was third at 15 under a day after his wayward tee shot on his only bogey in the second round hit his wife on the head - she was OK.

Koepka will look to keep the momentum when he defends his PGA Championship title at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York next week.

Twice over the last two days, Every overcame deficits of at least four strokes and went ahead of Kang. "I didn't have time to sleep much, only slept about three hours".

The Waterford native was level par for the back nine and picked up a birdie at the turn (the first hole) before dropping shots at 4 and five.

Spieth is still without a top-20 finish in his 13 starts this season. He will have 27 holes to play Sunday before he can win the tournament.

Scotland's Martin Laird was at one under for the day after 10 holes and dropped into a share of 16th place.

Kang finished his third round earlier on Sunday with a three-under 68 to enter the final 18 holes with a three-shot lead.

The bogey at 12 put him at 21 under, tied again with Every at the same time Koepka made a short birdie putt at No. 13 to get him within two strokes of the lead, though he had only one more birdie after that.

Koepka has four consecutive birdies late in his second round, then started Saturday with birdies on the first two holes.

Sung Kang pumps his fist after a birdie putt on the 10th hole in the final round of the Byron Nelson golf tournament on Sunday, May 12, 2019, in Dallas.

The AT&T Byron Nelson is contested at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas, Texas.
