Organisers reveal Madonna's Eurovision performance is not yet confirmed

Organisers reveal Madonna's Eurovision performance is not yet confirmed”

The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement accuse Madonna of "art washing" abuse and campaigned for her to pull out of the performance.

There remains some confusion over whether Madonna will actually take the stage.

Sand did not say what issues were delaying the signing of a contract, but confirmed that negotiations were in a "final stage".

"The EBU can confirm that no final decisions have been made, or agreements signed, regarding a performance by Madonna at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019", a Eurovision spokesperson told CNN.

Will Madonna perform on Eurovision?

"I'll never stop playing music to suit someone's political agenda nor will I stop speaking out against violations of human rights wherever in the world they may be", the singer said in a statement to Reuters.

Eurovision executive supervisor Sand called the situation "strange". "I'm really happy to be here", said Cypriot singer Tamta, the first artist to stroll the walkway flanked by visiting photographers and reporters.

'I hope and pray that we will soon break free from this awful cycle of destruction and create a new path towards peace'.

The pop queen who is the superstar guest performer at the weekend's grand final said she will continue to challenge human rights violation but would not bow to political pressure.

"We have an artist who would like to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest, and who we would love to welcome on that stage".

This year's Eurovision Song Contest has been subject to boycott campaigns and controversy, especially after a recent escalation of violence between Israel and Palestine.

Instead of the traditional red carpet, an orange carpet, matching the logo of a company sponsoring the worldwide song fest, was rolled out at the Tel Aviv square that houses Israel's Habima national theater and the Israel Philharmonic.

This year's contest is being held in Israel after the country's entry - Netta's song Toy - won the 2018 edition.

Israel is hosting the contest after Netta Barzilai won the 2018 event in Lisbon, Portugal, with her song Toy, a Me Too anthem featuring weird chicken noises.

The BBC has broadcast Eurovision since it first aired in 1956.

Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom - the big five countries that make the biggest financial contributions to the European Broadcasting Union, which broadcasts the song contest - along with Israel, as host country, have all bypassed the semis per the rules.
