UEFA looking to ban Manchester City from next season's Champions League

UEFA looking to ban Manchester City from next season's Champions League”

Just a day after making it back-to-back titles after pipping Liverpool to top spot on the final day of the season, a New York Times report revealed that UEFA are looking to ban City from next season's Champions League following an investigation.

It's alleged that the club misled authorities about their spending and a potential suspension for the Premier League champions is now being discussed.

However, City have long claimed "the attempt to damage the club's reputation is organised and clear" and said they "will not be providing any comment on out-of-context materials purportedly hacked or stolen from City Football Group and Man City personnel and associated people".

A video emerged on social media on Tuesday which appeared to show City players and staff singing a distasteful version of Liverpool's "Allez, Allez, Allez" song as they travelled on a plane following Sunday's victory at Brighton which clinched the title.

The club addressed an allegation published by The New York Times this week that Uefa financial investigators meeting in Nyon, Switzerland, two weeks ago had agreed to recommend a one-year ban for City when the case is passed to the Uefa body responsible for regulations.

Well, the Mirror claim that a suspension would likely open the door for another Premier League club. Their final points tally of 97 earns them the unfortunate distinction of having the highest final points score without actually winning the championship in the history of the Premier League.

"If what has been written about Manchester City is true, there might be a serious problem", Leterme said.

Arsenal and Manchester United will both be competing in the Europa League next season unless the Gunners win the final against Chelsea later this month, with Jose Mourinho being replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford midway through the season.

"This can lead to the heaviest punishment - exclusion from UEFA competitions".

Imagine the reaction if United take City's place in the Champions League next season.

For all their domestic domination in recent years, European success is the one thing that still eludes oil-rich Manchester City.
