US Orders Suspension of Flights Between the US and Venezuela

US Orders Suspension of Flights Between the US and Venezuela”

Conditions in Venezuela "threaten the safety and security of passengers, aircraft, and crew", the department said.

American Airlines Group Inc, previously the largest carrier providing service between the United States and Venezuela, in March said it was indefinitely suspending its flights to Venezuela. Others have halted their flights over the past two years.

There are now no direct commercial flights from the USA to Venezuela. Unless President Donald Trump disaproves, it becomes effective in July. Repeated attempts by Guaido to seize power have failed, however, and his latest bid involves inviting the US Southern Command to invade Venezuela.

Tuesday's flights between Miami and Caracas on Venezuela's Laser Airlines included a stop in the Dominican Republic, according to the airline.

Venezuelan National Guard forces prevented the press from entering parliament, Wednesday, May 15.

The moves are part of a four-month-old campaign against Maduro as the United States ramps up its support for opposition leader Juan Guaido. The assembly's vice president, Edgar Zambrano, was arrested May 8.

On Tuesday, police sealed off the National Assembly, purportedly to search for any hidden explosives. Police officers who keep watch around the diplomatic building allowed Jackson to go to the front gate. Maduro was elected president but the US says it recognizes Mr. Guaido.
