French pensioner, 102, 'murders her 92-year-old neighbour at care home'”

The 102-year-old was said to have been "in a very agitated state and confused", the BBC reports, via French news agency AFP.

The victim, whose face was swollen and bruised, was apparently found unconscious in her room by a staff worker on Saturday, May 18.

An autopsy revealed the 92-year-old had died from strangulation and significant blows to the head.

"The resident of the neighbouring room, aged 102, appeared in great agitation and told one of the medical staff that she had "killed someone", he added in the statement late on Wednesday.

The woman, who has not been named, has been taken to a psychiatric hospital after the attack.

Police have opened an investigation into "voluntary homicide against a person vulnerable due to their physical condition", the AFP news agency reports.

Police have not yet been able to question the woman, Trinh said.

Psychiatric tests are being done on the suspect, to determine whether or not she was criminally responsible for her actions at the time.
