The TSA Says You Can Now Bring CBD On Any US Flight

The TSA Says You Can Now Bring CBD On Any US Flight”

With the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approving Cannabidiol (CBD) medication, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has updated its policies to reflect the changes.

For example, regulators could bar all CBD products, rule that cookies and creams can only contain a certain amount of of the compound, or allow the products to exist legally so long as they're derived from hemp.

The agency recently updated its guidance to passengers on what can be brought aboard aircraft, indicating that - subject to "special instructions" - there are forms of medical marijuana that can be brought on board or placed in checked luggage.

At the same time, CBD oils that have THC are still illegal under federal law, and as such, are not allowed on planes.

The TSA told NBC News the update was brought about by the FDA's approval of Epidiolex, a CBD-infused drug that is used to treat seizures in children with epilepsy.

Many medical cannabis patients rely on cannabis products containing Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) for relief of pain, nausea, anorexia, spasticity, seizures and other symptoms.

"Possession of marijuana and certain cannabis infused products, including some Cannabidiol (CBD) oil, remain illegal under federal law", said the TSA in its website. The FDA has been clear that it intends to use this authority to regulate cannabis and cannabis-derived products, including CBD, in the same manner as any other food or drug ingredient. The TSA has updated their cannabis policies to be more in line with changes to federal law that saw certain cannabis products legalized nationally at the end of a year ago.

For example, FDA has issued warning letters to companies illegally selling CBD products meant to treat diseases such as cancer, which did not obtain new drug approvals.
