Air pollution kills one lakh kids every year

Air pollution kills one lakh kids every year”

"According to the World Bank, air pollution costs societies more than 5 trillion dollars every year". Nearly all of us are affected by it: 92 per cent of people worldwide do not breathe clean air.

The poll also found that close to half of UAE residents (48 per cent) reported that they or their family members have suffered irritation in their eyes, nose or throat as a result of air pollution. Until the government emphasises air quality as a national issue, improves the education around it so people understand the sources and long-term health effects or poor air quality, it will not be a priority.

From May 24 to June 4, the Mask Challenge involved people taking a picture or video of themselves wearing a mask - a symbol to show leaders that we want to breathe clean air.

Although there are many reasons why the global community should be stepping up action to combat air pollution, perhaps the most compelling is the direct positive impact that such action will have on our health and the health of our children.

Air pollution clearly violates the rights to life and health, the rights of the child, and the right to live in a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment. Our study has demonstrated that well-controlled exposure experiments using animal models offer major advantages for future air pollution control and are promising in the development of therapeutic intervention and treatment procedures'. The first is ambient or outdoor air pollution, caused largely by industry, coal-fired electricity generation and transport.

"In wind, the country met only 6.3 per cent of the target this year".

Along with all the expansion came the emergence of mega cities, increases in energy consumption, and more emissions of air pollutants.

The WHO Air Quality Guidelines (AQG) were updated in 2005 and include recommendations for the four most common air pollutants: particulate matter, ozone, nitrogen dioxide and sulphur dioxide.

Household air pollution comes from the indoor burning of fossil fuels, wood and other biomass based fuels for cooking, heating and lighting homes.

Hangzhou, situated in the province of Zhejiang, will host the main event.

Weigh that against the health benefits, the time saved and economic opportunities it opens up for women, the quality of life improvements, the reduced air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions and the reduced pressure on forests (for firewood). It affects us all, whether we realize it or not.We have taken the air we breathe for granted and are now faced with an urgent task to reverse the damage. The new government must arm their existing regulatory bodies with legal mandates to enforce measurable standards, create national and regional plans to deal with the sources of air pollution, with a clear method of tracking progress. It can now help spur the world to greater action.
