LabCorp reveals data breach affecting 200,000 days after Quest Diagnostic news”

The information on the affected system included patient names, dates of birth, addresses, phone numbers, dates of service, providers and balance information as well as credit card and bank information.

LabCorp said it had been affected by the same third-party data breach that affected Quest Diagnostics.

The SEC filing also states that AMCA will send breach notifications to "6,600 patients for whom BioReference performed laboratory testing" whose bank account and credit card info was stored on the breached systems. BioReference did not provide lab results or diagnostic information to AMCA and Social Security numbers also were not compromised.

According to a filing with U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), AMCA told the OPKO Health subsidiary that an unauthorized party accessed the BioReference medical test data of around 422,600 patients between August 1, 2018, and March 30, 2019.

American Medical Collection Agency, a billing collections service provider, said an "unauthorized user" accessed the agency's system that contained personal information from various entities, including Quest patients, the clinic said in a statement Monday. As it turns out, over 400,000 consumers of medical diagnostics company OPKO Health were also impacted, bringing the total number of victims to 20.1 million.

- Quest Diagnostics, one of the nation's biggest clinical laboratories, warned that almost 12 million patients might be affected by a data breach that happened to a collections agency the clinic uses.

Warner said he wanted more information about the company's vendor selection and due diligence process, sub-supplier monitoring, vendor evaluation policies and what it plans to do about its other vendors.

AMCA has advised BioReference that AMCA is providing notice to state attorneys general and other state agencies as required by applicable state data breach laws.

BioReference Laboratories, a unit within Opko Health, has suspended collection requests to AMCA since October 2018 and has asked AMCA to stop processing any pending collection requests, reports Reuters. The center clarified that there was no discovery of any misuse of the exposed data.
