Trump contradicts NASA moon landing plans: 'We did that 50 years ago'”

"As JFK famously said, "We choose to go to the Moon not because it is easy, but because it is Mars, '" 'Daily Show" employee Jason O. Gilbert joked. "They should be focused on the much bigger things we are doing, including Mars (of which the Moon is a part), Defense and Science!" the commander in chief tweeted from aboard Air Force One while returning from D-Day commemoration in France. That plan, which includes landing the first woman on the Moon, was unveiled in February in Huntsville, Ala., by Vice President Mike Pence.

At the end of his first year as president, Trump authorized NASA to "lead an innovative space exploration program to send American astronauts back to the moon, and eventually Mars". Maybe he doesn't understand that there is a planet Mars", Collins said in an interview for the new CNN podcast "Apollo 11: "Beyond the Moon". On Friday, NASA announced a plan to open the International Space Station to commercial tourism in an effort to offset the $100 billion estimated cost of the entire Artemis program. EST said NASA is "refocusing on the moon, the next sort of quest, if you will, but didn't we do this moon thing quite a few decades ago?" according to a clip shared by a senior fellow with the liberal watchdog Media Matters for America.

As part of the budget increase, the administration said it would begin efforts to send the first woman to the moon, almost five decades after the last United States landing. Ladies and gentlemen, that's just not good enough.

The budget increase was on top of the initial $21 billion budget request from NASA to accelerate the return to the lunar surface. So, the somewhat confusing latter part of the president's tweet - calling the moon a part of Mars - may be a reference to the horizon goal laid out in SPD-1.

Earlier Friday, NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine reiterated the stated goal of the Trump administration to make the moon the priority. In the coming years, we will need additional funds.

There are probably some frantic emails flying between NASA headquarters and the White House right now.
