Jets name Joe Douglas as GM

Jets name Joe Douglas as GM”

ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay confirmed to ESPN's Rich Cimini on Saturday that new New York Jets GM Joe Douglas is considering him for a role in the front office.

The team announced the decision on Twitter on Friday evening. The Douglas speculation began swirling before the draft, when rumors about Maccagnan's job security started leaking. Douglas will control the 53-man roster and will have final say on the draft and free agency. He and first-year Jets head coach Adam Gase worked together in 2015 with the Chicago Bears. Schefter is also reporting that Douglas turned down the Jets multiple times, but NY continued to up their offer until Douglas eventually relented.

He left the Bears to join the Eagles in May of 2016 and helped construct the team that won Philadelphia's first Super Bowl.

Douglas replaces Mike Maccagnan, who was surprisingly fired last month after four seasons when Jets chairman and CEO Christopher Johnson said he took a "deeper dive" this offseason to analyze the inner-workings of the football side of the organization.

It was unorthodox, but the Jets have the guy who is ready to lead them into the future. He held various posts with Ravens during that time, including national scout, Southeast area scout, East Coast area scout, Northeast area scout and player personnel assistant.
