Barty ends Anisimova's run to reach French Open final

Barty ends Anisimova's run to reach French Open final”

Because the men's semifinals were already locked into Friday's schedule on Court Philippe Chatrier with separate admission to each match - and to give both women's semifinal winners an equal amount of time to rest and prepare for Saturday's final - Konta and Vondrousova will play their match at the same time as Barty and Anisimova (on Court Suzanne Lenglen), but it will be banished to Court Simonne Mathieu, which some critics - including WTA CEO Steve Simon - see as a slap in the face of women's tennis.

Ashleigh Barty overcomes a first-set collapse to sweep aside American teenager Amanda Anisimova in three sets yesterday. The Australian rallied to take the second set, and then once again came from a break down in the decider as she sealed a 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 53 minutes. I have played a lot of players that actually have that game plan against me, but today she was just too good. The 26th seed, who had never won a match in Paris before this year, said: "It's hard to lose any match like this but my opponent played well and I'm proud of how I played". On the women's side, can Simona Halep defend her title?

Tonight, Ms Barty plays Czech Marketa Vondrousova in the championship match. Anisimova took six consecutive games.

Australia's Ash Barty has continued her stunning French Open form, taking down Madison Keys in straight sets to book her spot in the last four.

When Anisimova claimed that set with a forehand victor, she raised both arms aloft, looking like someone who had just won the entire match.

The tiebreak was also a see-saw contest, Barty moving 4-2 up before Anisimova scored five points in a row to take the set with a forehand victor down the line.

Still, that momentum carried her to a lead in the second set, before Barty went on a seven-game run of her own to go ahead 1-0 in the third. After one lost point, she clutched her racket against her chest like a pillow.

"She just outplayed me, basically", Anisimova said. After Roland Garros, next week she will make her Top 5 singles debut.

In only 68 minutes, Anisimova played aggressive tennis and in the process became the youngest French Open semi-finalist since 17 year-old Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic reached the semifinals of the 2006 French Open before losing to Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russian Federation. She double-faulted twice in the opening game while ceding the first 10 points, and faced three set points down 5-3.

The clay courts of Roland Garros host the second Grand Slam of the season.

"She's an incredible athlete and player".

However, as world number eight, Barty is the highest-ranked player still left in the women's draw at Roland Garros. At the same time, the other semifinal between Johanna Konta and Marketa Vondrousova would be held on Court Simonne Mathieu.
