'I have chose to move on' - Yuvraj Singh announces worldwide, IPL retirement”

The just-retired Yuvraj Singh is likely to get the BCCI's permission to play T20 leagues around the world but he has not yet formally written to the board seeking its nod.

I'd like to extend a very warm welcome to my friends from the media, my family, friends and fans from all across the world who are going to be part of, what is a very hard and at the same time a lovely moment for me I can't really put it in words but I will try. Those of you who watched him play the 2007 World T20 and 2011 World Cup victories will always cherish the memories of his cricketing.

The greatest triumph for Yuvraj, now 37, was undoubtedly the 2011 World Cup, when he hit four half-centuries and a century, while also picking up 15 wickets - including a five-for against Ireland - on his way to the Man of the Tournament award as India won the trophy for only the second time. It was so shattering that I felt my career was over. Then I took a bit of time [off] and I realised why I play cricket; it's because I love the game. "It was the right time to go".

Four man-of-the-match awards en route to the cup ensured there was no one who could come between him and the man-of-the-tournament trophy. When everybody said it was impossible.

Trust me I never stopped believing in myself, no matter what the world said.

Cricket has given me some great friends and seniors.

Former captain Sourav Ganguly, under whom Yuvraj enjoyed plenty of success, wrote on the social networking site, "Dear Yuv. every good thing comes to an end". I had decided a year ago that this IPL would be my last and I'll give it my best shot.

This is the same batch that created history and went on to win the World Cup under the great captaincy of MS Dhoni and exceptional coaching of Gary Kirsten, probably the best global coach I played under. He scored a fine knock of 70 runs from 30 balls in the semi-final contest against Australia in the 2007 T20 World Cup. At the press conference while announcing his retirement earlier in the day, Yuvraj had suggested that he wasn't entirely pleased with how the final phase of his career was handled, saying that once he passed the mandatory Yo-Yo test in December 2017, his non-selection into Indian set-up was a decision for others to explain. "To be part of history, that was made after 28 years [in 2011], I mean, honestly, what more could I ask for?"

I think it's a ideal day to move on. He was unsold in the first round of auctions for IPL 2019 though he was later picked by Mumbai Indians for just ₹1 crore. "Love you brotherman You deserved a better send off". See you on the other side.
